If you’ve been considering having family photos taken, but aren’t certain where to start, let’s begin with summer family photos and what to wear. It’s almost summer, that blissful time of year where we usually look forward to things slowing down just a bit. Warm weather, outdoor gatherings, hikes and bike rides and ice cream. This year we were forced to slow down a little sooner than expected, but as we move towards summer, I still think it will be important for us to look forward to those summer activities that we are safely able to participate in.

It’s also the perfect time for family photos. Whether you have them done every year, or you’ve been thinking about it, but maybe putting it off, I can’t think of a better time than this summer to collect your family and schedule a session. Family is important, that goes as unsaid, but I think we’ve all been reminded a little extra this year just how important our families are to us.

So where do we start you ask? One of the keys to lovely, keepsake family photos that you’ll want to hang on your walls is a complementary color palette in your clothing choices. Gone are the days where everyone wears a white shirt or blouse. For up-to-date photos that will stand the test of time, we suggest solids or limited prints. While big, bold flowers can make a beautiful fashion statement, they sometimes overwhelm a photograph. Not everyone has to wear the same color either, but you’ll want to keep to similar shades of a color family.

You should also consider the surroundings of the location we’ll be photographing, as well as the décor of your home where you’ll be displaying your photos. The location and the clothing should complement one another, as opposed to vying for the eye’s attention.
