There are so many special times in your baby’s life and for some of those, many parents look to have milestone photos taken of their child. At Rachael Venema Photography, I’m often asked to take photos when a baby is just learning to sit up, at approximately 6 – 8 months old. I call these “sitter sessions”. Documenting this first big milestone creates a permanent memory of the pride and happiness you feel as your baby begins his/her journey of self-realization.
The sweet dress and romper in these first two images are hand-made by Emmry Cloth right here in Ripon!
The typical second milestone is a child’s first birthday. We can do this as more of a formal, traditional first year portrait, or we can get a little messy and do a cake-smash session! Either way, my inclination is to keep these photos relatively simple with little or no props (other than the cake if you choose). This allows us to maintain a classic look to the photos and keep our focus on your baby.
If you haven’t yet noticed, or been told by multitudes of mothers who have gone before you; babies grow up SO fast! And the first year is like lightning. Just as you think all they do is eat, sleep and poop, you get that first smile. It turns into a giggle, and before you know it they are sitting up. About the time you just can’t believe it’s been a whole year since you brought this baby into the world, he/she is pulling themselves up and taking those first tentative steps. It’s the true miracle of life and capturing those moments in milestone photos will allow you to re-visit those joyful memories each and every time you look at your photos on your wall or flip through your photo album.
