Photographing actor headshots is something I really enjoy, so when Kevin Valdez’s father called me looking for professional headshots for his son’s portfolio, I was ecstatic. HIs dad explained to me that Kevin is a very high functioning autistic person, who had just landed a role in a new TV show.

Kevin is something of a local phenom, having acted in numerous productions both at Ripon High School and Cornerstone Community Church in Manteca. But over the last several years, Kevin’s star has been rising. After a whirlwind of auditions, read-through’s, rehearsals and cross-country travel, Kevin is solidly on the map as the brother to the main character, in the Apple + drama, Little Voice. I highly recommend giving this a look, as it is both entertaining and inspiring.

A resident of Ripon, Kevin’s dad, Roger, contacted me recently to schedule a photo shoot to update Kevin’s acting portfolio. I met up with them at their home where we went through Kevin’s closet and I helped him select several outfits for our session. Even though we are typically only photographing head and shoulders, what you wear for your acting or modeling portfolio images is definitely important. After discussing the look that Kevin was hoping for, we chose to do some photos in downtown Ripon, as well as at my studio. Being able to meet with Kevin and his family before our shoot, also allowed Kevin to feel more comfortable with me when we actually began taking pictures. We had so much fun with this session and I only hope the images do justice to Kevin’s bright light.
